Top 10 Steakhouses in Chicago: A Neighborhood and Booking Guide

Chicago offers steak dinners in several distinct forms: a French-influenced room in River North, a Rush Street institution, a Basque chophouse and modern restaurants tied to the city's meatpacking history. This guide compares ten Chicago locations using information from their official websites, checked October 27, 2026. One important operational note comes first: Bavette's Chicago says it is temporarily closed and plans to reopen in mid-November, so confirm its reopening before making plans.

How we selected and ordered this list

Marrow Publishing selected ten steak-focused restaurants with verified Chicago addresses, official menu or concept information and active booking or contact routes. The four restaurants already listed in Marrow's national Top 100 appear first in the same relative order. Six additional city selections follow, based on menu distinction, neighborhood range and usefulness for different occasions. Their local positions do not create national ranks or change the published national list.

This is a research-led editorial booking guide. It does not claim dining visits, kitchen testing, customer ratings or new awards. Temporary closures, private events and menu changes can affect a specific date, so the restaurant's own page remains the final source for planning.

1. Bavette's Bar & Boeuf — River North

Bavette's Chicago is at 218 West Kinzie Street. Its official site describes a French-influenced approach to steakhouse staples, classic cocktails and wine. The restaurant currently says the Chicago location is temporarily closed and will reopen in mid-November. Treat that as a target rather than a guaranteed date: wait for the official reservations page to show availability before arranging a visit.

2. Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse — Gold Coast

The original Gibsons location is at 1028 North Rush Street. The restaurant's Chicago page traces the brand to its 1989 opening on Rush Street and supplies location-specific menus and reservations. Its current menu includes steaks alongside fish and chops. Choose the Chicago page deliberately rather than the Oak Brook or Rosemont branches, and review the restaurant's current dress guidance and hours before arrival.

3. RPM Steak — River North

RPM Steak is at 66 West Kinzie Street. Its official contact page lists regular dining-room hours, reservations, private dining and a beef program that works with suppliers from the United States, Australia and Japan. The range makes it useful for comparing different beef styles at one table. Check the restaurant's notices for your date: it can post one-day private-event closures on the same page.

4. Swift & Sons — Fulton Market

Swift & Sons is at 1000 West Fulton Market. 5. Gene & Georgetti — River North

Gene & Georgetti is at 500 North Franklin Street. The restaurant says it opened in 1941 and describes itself as a Tuscan steakhouse with steaks, chops, seafood and pasta. Compare it when the table wants traditional steakhouse choices alongside Italian-American dishes. Before you reserve

  • Verify that Bavette's has reopened before planning around it; the official Chicago page currently targets mid-November.
